|Ahlstrom is supporting the Eva Ahlström Foundation whose mission is to support underprivileged women and children in Finland and elsewhere in the world. Results achieved with donations totaling 200 000 EUR to the Eva Ahlström Foundation’s work in India are truly compelling.||
The Foundation supported UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project in the Madhya Pradesh state in India in 2011-2014. The WASH project was implemented in 150 schools with 40 000 children, ensuring child-friendly toilets and handwashing facilities, better hygiene practices and change in attitude also in the surrounding community.
The Eva Ahlström Foundation is continuing its commitment to the children in India, supporting currently a WASH-in-schools project in the tribal areas of Rajasthan in India. The three-year project will demonstrate simple, sustainable and scalable WASH-in-schools approaches. The school-owned models provide child friendly drinking water, mass handwashing facilities with soap as well as sanitation. An essential part of the program is to strengthen the capacity of teachers, Schools Management Committees and children to operate and maintain WASH facilities and adopt sustained hygiene practices.
The projects are in accordance with Ahlstrom’s values advancing basic human rights and being aligned with the company’s products for healthcare, clean water and environmental improvements. This in the spirit of Eva Ahlström who at one time was a pioneer for social responsibility in Finland!
